In the 1980s U.S.Rep. Charlie Wilson (Tom Hanks), Texas socialite Joanne Herring (Julia Roberts) and CIA agent Gust Avrakotos (Philip Seymour Hoffman) form an unlikely alliance to boost funding for Afghan freedom fighters in their war against invading Soviets. The trio's successful efforts to finance these covert operations contributes to the fall of the Soviet Union and the end of the Cold War.

    I was disappointed with the way the story was told, there was a lack of character building and I didn’t feel engaged. I’m sure this is a great story of our history but the movie didn’t have heart. I’m not sure if this is what the movie makers were trying to portray but I walked away thinking Charlie Wilson won the Cold War almost single-handedly... <a href="" class="external" target="blank">See Full Review</a>
